Reading Passage: "The Lost Drone"

(1) The sun was dipping behind the Housing Board blocks when Ravi realised his sister's drone was missing. He had last seen it on the void deck, resting against the bicycle rack. Now, only a single red propeller lay on the concrete, twisted and silent.

(2) "We have to find it," said Meena, her voice tight with worry. She paced the length of the corridor, biting her lip. The drone was a birthday gift from their father, who was working overseas.

(3) Ravi scanned the nearby bushes. The wind whispered through the leaves, as if mocking their search. He kicked a stone in frustration, sending it skittering across the floor.

(4) A neighbour, Uncle Tan, appeared with a torch. "I saw a boy near the playground earlier," he said. "He was holding something that buzzed." The children's eyes lit up with hope.

(5) They hurried to the playground. There, a small crowd had gathered around a figure wearing a bright yellow cap. In his hands was the missing drone, its lights blinking weakly.

(6) "You took it?" Meena asked, stepping forward. The boy shrugged. "It was just lying there," he muttered. Ravi felt a surge of anger but Meena placed a calm hand on his arm.

(7) Uncle Tan spoke gently to the boy, who soon handed over the drone. "Things get lost," he said, "but they don't always stay lost." Meena smiled, relieved, and the red propeller was finally reunited with its frame.
