Common Mistakes to Watch For
- Q3: Students may only state the cause without mentioning the solution. Both parts are needed for full marks.
- Q4: Students may choose a phrase that is not actually in the text. Remind them to locate the phrase directly from the passage.
- Q8: Students may only give the literal meaning (about rain and rainbows) without explaining the metaphorical meaning. The deeper meaning is required.
- Q10 & Q20: These are open-ended questions. Students should be encouraged to express personal opinions while staying relevant to the passage theme.
- Section C (Cloze): Students should read the entire sentence and surrounding context before choosing an answer. Many errors come from reading only the immediate blank without considering the broader context.
